Table & Toast

THE TABLE & TOAST NOTEBOOK

What to check before the celebration

Scope and limits

One local event, up to 500 guests and 100 tables. Table numbers run from 1 to 999; each table accepts an entered count of 1–50 seats. Names and sort keys allow up to 160 Unicode characters. CSV and JSON imports are limited to 1 MB. This version is intended for DIY weddings and small events, not simultaneous multi-user planning. Up to 250 same-table groups and 1,000 unique keep-apart pairs; one group per guest. Candidate tables are a check of this group and its target table, not proof that the whole event is conflict-free. Read the exact group rules and counterexample.

There is no optimal-seating algorithm, relationship inference, invitation delivery, account connection, venue floor-plan modeling, aisle calculation, fire safety or safe-occupancy calculation. Seat counts do not establish whether an event or room is safe.

Sorting is explicit

English US collation sorts the full display name unless you provide a sort key. It ignores case and treats accents at base-letter strength, with natural ordering for numbers. Stable guest IDs break equal-key ties. We do not infer family names or guess culture-specific name order. A–Z is a convenient label; other writing systems follow the browser’s English collation and are not transliterated.

Unicode and typography

The embedded Noto Sans and Noto Sans CJK SC fonts cover common Latin accents, Greek, Cyrillic and many Chinese characters. This is not a claim of support for every Unicode character. Unsupported glyphs stop PDF creation. Right-to-left and complex-script print shaping, including Arabic, Hebrew, Indic and Thai scripts, is not supported in this version; affected names remain in the guest list, but the PDF is blocked with a clear message. Emoji may also be unsupported. Use a typesetting tool suitable for the names you need.

Long names wrap at available space and can wrap within an unbroken word. Font size reduces only within the layout’s lower bound. If a name cannot fit, download stops instead of truncating it. Review the actual PDF, not just the illustrative preview.

Paper and devices

Letter and A4 PDF dimensions are explicit. Cards use fixed inch dimensions on both sizes. Browser tests use desktop Chrome and simulated mobile viewports; they do not constitute iPhone or Android hardware testing. Physical paper, printers, card stock and cutting have not been tested. Do a one-sheet test at 100%.

Recovery and concurrency

Undo stores the previous 30 changes in memory until reload. A backup is the reliable way to recover later. Restore and CSV import replace the current event only after a preview. Do not edit the same event in multiple tabs; if another tab changes it, save this view as a backup and reload before continuing.
